Copper is the oldest metal and the one that has played the most prominent role in the history of civilisation. It has been a constant companion to mankind’s technological development, silently determining the shape of our future. Recent studies have confirmed its anti-bacterial properties, used in hospitals, clothing and for other similar purposes.

Promoting Copper Use

Chile’s economic and social development has always been closely related to mining and, as from the 20th century, to copper mining in particular. As a result, the defence of copper’s use and the promotion of new applications are crucial in order to ensure that the industry continues to contribute to the wealth and welfare of all Chileans. Collahuasi is an active member of the International Copper Association (ICA), an organisation that brings together the world’s main copper producers, precisely for the purpose of promoting its use.
