For Collahuasi, care for the environment and its protection are a priority that must be reflected in all its operations and involve every person who forms part of the organisation.

The importance that Collahuasi attaches to conservation of natural resources is reflected not only in the way it manages its mining business but also in different measures taken over the years that demonstrate its permanent quest to harmonise mining activity with the conservation of the environment, minimising the impact on the areas in which it operates.

Collahuasi has, in other words, assumed a commitment that extends beyond mere compliance with the law or implementation of mitigation measures.  

In 2009, Collahuasi invested US$15.4 million in environmental projects, up by 11% on 2008. Out of this total, around 40% was devoted to the relocation of water extraction wells in the Coposa and Michincha sectors while over 24% was allocated to the treatment and disposal of waste.
