Jon Evans will leave Collahuasi
Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi announces that, at the end of this year, the Company’s Chief Executive Jon Evans will leave this position to return to Australia, where his family lives, and take up another post in the mining industry. Jon Evans has led Collahuasi since mid-2008, during which time he consolidated a first class human team, whilst advancing the Company´s expansion plans that in the future will allow Collahuasi to produce more than one million tonnes of fine copper per year.
At that time Giancarlo Bruno Lagomarsino, currently Vice President Operations of Collahuasi, will assume the position of Chief Executive. Giancarlo is a Civil Mechanical Engineer of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and an expert in Risk Prevention of Sernageomin (Chilean Mining and Geology Service). He has held the positions of Risk Prevention Manager and Mine Operations Manager in Anglo American’s Los Bronces Division and also General Manager of Mantos Blancos Division and El Soldado Division, also in Anglo American. Since 2008, he has held the position of Vice President Operations of Collahuasi, in northern Chile’s Tarapacá Region.
Xstrata Copper Chief Executive and current Chairman of the Collahuasi Board, Charlie Sartain, thanked Jon Evans for the contribution he has made to the Company during this period. "Jon has led significant organisational change and important business improvements since he joined Collahuasi as Chief Executive in 2008. I thank him for his commitment and achievement in taking Collahuasi into a successful growth stage. We wish him every success in his new professional challenges. I would also like to congratulate Giancarlo Bruno and offer him the Collahuasi board’s support to successfully guide Collahuasi and its expansion plans".
John Mackenzie, Chief Executive of Anglo American’s Copper Business Unit and a member of Collahuasi’s Board, said: "Jon Evans has played a fundamental role in the management and development of Collahuasi during the last few years and, whilst being sorry for his departure, we want to wish him the best in the next steps of his professional career. At the same time, I want to express my satisfaction for the nomination of Giancarlo Bruno, who brings all his experience in the mining industry to lead the next growth stages at Collahuasi".
Toshiki Inagaki, General Manager of Mitsui’s Base Metal Division and a member of Collahuasi’s Board, said: "For the last two years, Jon exercised strong leadership and overcame every difficulty to unlock the potential of Collahuasi’s huge resources. We also expect and believe that Giancarlo will maximize the value of Collahuasi for the prosperity of future generations".
Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi SCM is Chile’s third largest copper mine with production in 2009 of 535,000 tonnes of copper. Its shareholders are Xstrata plc with 44%, Anglo American plc with 44% and a consortium of Japanese investors led by Mitsui.
