Promotion of Entrepreneurship
Since the start of its operations, Collahuasi has sought to contribute to the development and wellbeing of the inhabitants of neighbouring communities and its efforts extend far beyond financial contributions or assistance in specific cases of need.
Pica Entrepreneurship Fund
One of the initiatives that has had the greatest impact as the regards the progress of the inhabitants of Pica is the funding that Collahuasi awards annually on the basis of competitive bids to foster entrepreneurship in the community, create new sources of jobs and increase the quality of life of its inhabitants. Since its creation in 2003, this programme has financed 126 projects, principally in agriculture, tourism and services, for the benefit of the community. In total, they represent an investment of over 330 million pesos. Entrepreneurs from the Coast Programme Given its interest in expanding opportunities for progress among the region’s inhabitants from a long-term perspective, Collahuasi has extended this initiative to the coastal area where, in September 2009, it officially launched its
Entrepreneurs from the Coast programme
This seeks to foster entrepreneurship in coastal towns and villages between Pisagua and Quillagua, replicating the model used in Pica. Thanks to this programme, the inhabitants of Pisagua, Los Verdes, Caramucho, Chanavayita, Cáñamo, Chanavaya, Río Seco, San Marcos and Chipana can submit projects to a fund with an annual value of 100 million pesos. In the first year of the programme, 97 projects received funding.
