Promotion of Sports and Healthy Living

The promotion of sports and a healthy life style among the inhabitants of the Tarapacá Region is one of the values to which Collahuasi attaches most importance, given the great benefits of controlled and planned physical activity for physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing.

In 2009, in conjunction with the La Araucana Recreation Corporation, it launched a comprehensive sports and recreation programme in the Iquique, Pica and Pozo Almonte municipal districts and in Huatacondo, targeting all the members of these communities from seven year-olds to senior citizens. Once their needs in terms of sports had been identified, 91 projects in different disciplines were defined for implementation by La Araucana with financing from Collahuasi under Chile’s Sports Law (Law Nº 19.712).
