Generating Long-Term Value with the Community
Our ongoing engagement model prioritizes on-site meetings, direct dialogue, and participation in various collaborative initiatives, which helps us better understand the interests and information needs of our stakeholders to provide timely responses.
In recent years, our management focus has been on:
- Fulfilling voluntary environmental commitments associated with the environmental impact study of the infrastructure improvement and expansion project approved in 2021.
- Continuing collaboration with regional and local authorities to address the urgent needs of Tarapacá through a series of public-private initiatives.
- Formalizing new collaboration agreements with communities.
- Establishing links with regional entrepreneurs dedicated to recycling and capacity building, aiming to create a local ecosystem around the circular economy.
- Ongoing meetings with Unions 1 and 2, representing the Supervisors and Operators of Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi.
Community Relations
Good relationships with our neighbors help prevent conflicts that could affect operational continuity in the short term and reinforce our social license for future growth. Therefore, we aim to cultivate relationships based on respect and trust, grounded in mutual understanding and collaboration at both regional and local levels, while linking the success of our business to the progress of the region and surrounding communities.
In line with our sustainability policy and ESG strategy, our efforts in this area are primarily focused on improving the quality of life for people living in the surrounding environment. To achieve this, we apply a relationship model based on direct, in-person interaction, seeking to guide relationships through formal collaboration agreements that ensure ongoing dialogue through working groups.
Indigenous Peoples
Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi, through its Sustainable Development Policy, recognizes, values, and respects the cultures, customs, heritage, and values of indigenous communities and peoples, based on adherence to its values and the voluntary principles it supports, as well as the legislation and international treaties and agreements in effect in Chile.
While none of the company’s operations are located in areas designated as Indigenous Lands, the company maintains ongoing dialogue and mutual cooperation with groups in its area of influence to improve the quality of life for communities and ensure the sustainability of operations over time.
The main indigenous peoples in the area are the Aymara and Quechua, present in the communities of Alca, Huatacondo, Salar de Coposa, Naciente Collahuasi, and Laguna del Huasco, among others in the region.
It is important to note that through the Community Engagement Management, working groups are established, and a continuous dialogue and communication are maintained with their representatives, fostering trust and staying informed about the needs and expectations of this population.
