Mining of excellence committed to the sustainable development of Tarapacá
We are a mining company dedicated to the extraction and production of copper concentrate and molybdenum concentrate.
We are among the six largest copper producers in the world – in the mines category – and we are one of the four main molybdenum producers in Chile. We have one of the largest deposits of the red metal on the planet, with 10,380 million tons.
Our operations are located in the Tarapacá region – the second most important in Chile in copper production – and range from the high plateau, more than 4,400 meters above sea level, to the coast. Our industrial facilities and the Rosario and Ujina fields, located in the commune of Pica, make up the Cordillera Area. The concentration plant is also located in the Ujina sector, from where a 203 km long mining pipeline system is born, through which the copper concentrate is transferred to the Collahuasi Maritime Terminal. From this facility, located in Punta Patache, 65 km south of the city of Iquique, products are shipped to international markets. In this place, the molybdenum and concentrate filtering plants are also located.
Our shareholders are Anglo American plc (44%), Glencore (44%) and Japan Collahuasi Resources B.V. (12%), those who are represented on the Board of Directors.
During 2022, at Collahuasi we have a total workforce of 5,148 workers on average, including our own workers and contractors. In addition, 50% of the workers came from the Tarapacá Region, while 64% of the total came from the great north of the country (Antofagasta, Arica and Tarapacá). During the same year, Collahuasi produced 571 thousand tons of fine copper.
Our strategy considers the management of ESG (environmental, social and governance) variables as a central element. In line with the above, we work on more sustainable mining and are also committed to our neighboring communities, in order to contribute significantly to their social, cultural and educational development. In this area of action, our focuses are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN for 2030, which are related to social investment, development and socioeconomic impact and local relations.
