The Company’s contribution reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the strengthening of local MSMEs.

With the goal of driving local economic development and fostering the circular economy, Collahuasi’s C20+ Project delivered a significant donation of recycled wood to nine entrepreneurs from Iquique, Alto Hospicio, Pozo Almonte, and Pica.

The initiative aims to strengthen local entrepreneurship while promoting the reuse of construction surplus materials, contributing to a more circular economy in the region.

The donated wood —originating from works carried out at the mining site— will allow beneficiaries to advance projects related to furniture manufacturing, handicrafts, pallets, and community space improvements, supporting both small businesses and social organizations. This approach reinforces Collahuasi’s vision of creating solutions that generate economic, social, and environmental value in the territories where it operates.

One example is Mueblería Rústica Anguilú in Pica, which will expand its showroom and boost its growth thanks to the donation. Meanwhile, the Nomadesert Cultural Organization will use the materials to restore the Anatiña site, located in front of the Pampa del Tamarugal National Reserve, with the purpose of developing community spaces and strengthening the cultural identity of the area. In turn, SETCAT Ingeniería, a services company in Pozo Almonte, will use the wood to manufacture pallets for transporting mining machinery, optimizing costs and improving its operations.

María Luisa Arecheta, Senior Communities Supervisor of the C20+ Project, explained that the initiative reflects coordinated work across different areas of the Company’s project: “We conducted a survey of construction surpluses at the site, identifying high-quality materials that could have a second life within the community. This donation not only reduces waste, but also supports the growth of local MSMEs, turning a resource into an opportunity,” she noted.

Through this initiative, Collahuasi reaffirms its purpose of challenging the present to contribute to a better society, promoting projects that connect innovation with local needs and reflect the value of working alongside entrepreneurs, organizations, and local stakeholders for the benefit of Tarapacá.
