With more than US$230 million invested, Collahuasi has boosted strategic sectors such as transportation, services, and logistics in the Tarapacá region.

The C20+ Project is providing a significant economic boost to regional development, through a key investment aimed at extending the operational life of Collahuasi for decades, supported by the use of desalinated water.

This investment has translated into more than US$230 million managed within the Tarapacá region, mainly benefiting productive sectors linked to logistics, transportation, hospitality and services, particularly in the communes of Pica, Pozo Almonte, Alto Hospicio and Iquique.

One example of this positive impact is Incomec Spa – Áridos San Lorenzo, a company with 25 years of experience in the area and a direct participant in the project. “C20+ was extremely important because it allowed us to maintain continuous work for three years in the region, and of course, that enabled us to increase our workforce by approximately 50%. There was a rise in labor demand in the region, which gave us greater employment opportunities,” stated General Manager Víctor Hugo Caballero.

Caballero added, “For us, the arrival of the C20+ Project has been essential. It has allowed our group of companies to grow, expand our capabilities, and specialize even further in our main business lines, which include equipment leasing and earthmoving services.”

From the project side, Carlos Machuca, Contracts and Procurement Manager of C20+, described the factors that made these results possible. “C20+ has developed along three fundamental pillars: logistics management; services such as catering, lodging, and transportation; and most importantly, the hiring of local labor, which at its peak involved more than 2,500 people from the Tarapacá region working across various areas of the project.”

Another example of regional collaboration is Ingsal Ingeniería y Construcción. Its General Manager, Rodrigo Salinas, highlighted the value of working together with Collahuasi. “We made a strategic decision to partner with the C20+ Project. It resulted in significant growth for us, both in terms of the number of projects awarded and the workforce we were able to employ. It has been positive for our company and for our team.”

For Salinas, “This project has meant meaningful growth for the region, with investments that benefit local communities, companies, collaborators, and allow us to project long-term.”

Finally, Machuca emphasized that the project’s success has been based on “believing in local companies, trusting them, and helping them strengthen their capabilities. Mining has demanding standards, and these companies have not only met them—they have often exceeded expectations.”

Through this investment, hiring more than 2,500 workers from the region, and extending its operational life sustainably, Collahuasi continues to position Tarapacá as a strategic hub for the development of Chile’s large-scale mining industry.
